New safety measures for hand luggage on all departures from or transfers via EU member states From 6 November 2006, only limited amounts of liquids may be taken on board flights that depart from EU countries and on connecting flights from Europe. Liquid and gel-based products such as healthcare products and cosmetics may be carried in hand luggage as long as they comply with the following regulations: - Containers with liquids and similar products may contain up to 100 millilitres (the printed maximum quantity applies)
- All containers must be carried in a transparent resealable plastic bag (e.g. a so-called "zip-lock") with a maximum capacity of one litre
- One bag per person
- The bag must be presented separately at the security check
Medication and special foodstuffs (e.g. baby food) which are needed during a flight may be transported outside the plastic zip-lock bag. Articles and plastic bags that do not comply with the regulations may not be taken on board. A similar regulation has applied since 29 September 2006 for flights and connecting flights to the USA, with a limit of 90 millilitres per container. At present, however, 100 millilitres is allowed at German airports for flights to the USA. Duty-free articles purchased at airports inside the EU or on flights on planes registered in the EU, e.g. on Lufthansa flights, may be carried on board in a sealed bag as long as they are accompanied by a receipt bearing the date of the flight (this does not apply to flights to the USA or to code-share flights). These items must be sealed by the duty-free sales staff. Additional special regulations apply to USA and UK flights. For example, liquids still may not be taken on board as hand luggage on any flights departing from or flying via the United Kingdom. Please check the current regulations shortly before your departure at this page. Lufthansa exerts no influence on these legal stipulations and asks passengers to bear them in mind already when preparing for a trip and to reduce hand luggage to the bare minimum. Additional security measures on UK and US flights Additional cabin baggage restrictions and security controls apply for all flights from or via UK as well as for all flights to and from the United States. We regret any inconvenience our passengers might experience due to these measures. Airlines recommends that its passengers reduce their carry-on baggage to a minimum and arrive early at the airport. As these measures might change at short notice, we recommend to consult this page prior to your departure for the latest information. The following rules apply: US On instructions from the German and US authorities, passengers will again be allowed to take limited amounts of liquids, wax or gel-type substances in their hand luggage into the aircraft cabin. Permitted are containers, such as bottles or tins, each up to a size of 100 ml but they must be carried in a transparent plastic bag with a volume of no more than one litre. One bag per passenger is allowed. Allowed for carry-on baggage are: - Prescription medicines and baby food, of which larger amounts may be packed in carry-on bags insofar as they are essential for the flight
- Electronic equipment including mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and laptops
UK Following rules apply for all passengers traveling from and via the UK but not for passengers flying from Germany to the UK where the standard regulations apply. - Prescription medicines in liquid form if needed during the flight, e.g. diabetic kit
